Artist Statement
"My practice as a visual artist is fundamentally informed by my travels. I am fascinated by how a location’s geography dictates its light and palette. To capture this 'color identity' with integrity, I prefer working on-site, where I can respond to the shifting atmosphere in real-time.
My current body of work focuses on the landscapes and temple architectures of India, specifically Hampi. In this series, I bridge the gap between landscape painting and portraiture.
By engaging with these temple sculptures through the intimate study of form and expression, I aim to portray the emotions within the stone. I find deep emotion in the weathered and fractured faces of these deities and figures, exploring how time and nature act upon these structures to create a new, hauntingly beautiful identity."
